Gaelic Church Service Cancelled
Patience Is a Virtue
According to film makers who produced the Gaelic film Foighidinn, patience, allegedly, is one of the Gaelic virtues. The short film was recently screened at BAFTA in Piccadilly, London, is due to be shown at 99 film festivals around the world, and its makers were thinking that it might be screened at Cannes. The central character in the film is played by Angus Peter Campbell from the Isle of South Uist, who now lives and works in the Isle of Skye. The film is beautifully shot, a gem of a short film. The team behind the film were talking about producing a series of short films for cinema about the Gaelic virtues, if any of our members could enlighten us about the Gaelic virtues we will pass your information on the film makers. To coincide with Angus Peter's visit to the Society on the 16th of July the director was proposing that we might also screen the film. We will keep you posted.
For our Gaelic Love Songs evening in February to coincide with St. Valentine's Day, Màiri Sìne Campbell was our principal guest/song tutor/singer. It was a very successful event, many of the students from the song class contributed to the evening ceilidh and listened to an evening of stories and songs. The fine buffet helped round of a near perfect evening.
Chrissie MacEachan from Iochdair in South Uist will be in London on Saturday the 12th of March, Chrissie won the coveted Mod Gold Medal for traditional Gaelic singing in 1982. We are looking forward to a night of songs from South Uist. The Song Class starts at 5.00pm and the Ceilidh Starts at 7.30pm, both at Crown Court Church of Scotland, Russell Street, Covent Garden. To confirm your places in the class phone Tommy MacAskill on 0207 828 8978.
We were sorry to hear of the death of one of our members, Georgina Dobson. Georgina, also a former member and great supporter of Coisir Lunnainn, died after a long illness.
The Quarterly Gaelic Church Service due to be held on Sunday the 13th of March has had to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. We will update members about the next Service when we have the details. Make some space in your diaries for the 7th and 8th of May. To coincide with the Gaelic Mass the Gaelic Society in association with the Gaelic Books Council will be a book launch. Dr Martin MacIntyre from the School of Scottish Studies will be launching his book of modern short stories. Donald McCormick's visit on the 2nd of April.
